Epidemiology is the study of the patterns, causes, effects and associations between predictors of health and disease in populations. It is the cornerstone discipline for investigating disease in the herd or flock or the population as a whole. The discipline is data-driven and skills in data collection, collation, statistics, analysis and interpretation are essential to support the basic training in medicine.
Herd Health are specialists in epidemiology and especially when applied to production-animal problems. We specialise in identifying and solving animal health and production problems.
We also bring One Health expertise. The One Health concept is that the health and welfare of people and their animals – especially the production animals – are intrinsically linked. We have contributed animal production, veterinary, epidemiology and surveillance expertise to One Health projects conducted in Australasia, Asia, South America and the Middle East with our human health colleagues.
